Gluck - Le Cinesi - Gardelli, Munchner Rundfunkorchester

Review:

This charming one-act opera was previously recorded by the period-instrument Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in a vivacious performance conducted by Rene Jacobs with outstanding singers. Lamberto Gardelli uses a large modern orchestra and sets consistently slower tempi, dirge-like in the one tenor aria. Thomas Moser has a finer voice than his rival. The three female soloists are all excellent and the dialogue in recitative is certainly lively enough. If you cannot find the Jacobs recording this will serve and the opera itself is an unqualified delight.
