Review:
Claudio Scimone Italian conductor and pioneering champion of the baroque is the leader of I Solisti Veneti. Founded in 1959, they were one of the first groups to give performances of the 18th-century music from the Veneto region of Italy. They made some of the first recordings of many concertos and operas by Vivaldi as well as music by Tartini and Albinoni. The conductor and his group, actively engaged in Baroque research, is still touring all over the world. For many people, Scimone offered their first experience of this repertory, and with a catalogue of more than 350 recordings and numerous awards to his credit, he and I Solisti Veneti still provide the only recording option in the catalogue for many important baroque works. |
